URBAN RADIO Top 40 WMSR (STAR 94.9)/FLORENCE-MUSCLE SHOALS received national attention after a promotion inspired by ORSON WELLES’ 1938 radio play "War of the Worlds" in 1938, with aliens hacking the station's transmission and plotting a format takeover scared more than a few locals.
Regional Dir./Programming BRIAN RICKMAN told ALL ACCESS, "the short version is that we stunted with 'aliens' hacking into the station to take over and change the format from Top 40 to an eclectic sort of JACK for Gen X kind of thing. Anyway, the stunting imaging caused a freakin' panic in the market!"
