CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WMMS/CLEVELAND morning host SHANE "ROVER" FRENCH and morning cast member MIKE "CHOCOLATE CHARLIE" TOOMEY have been indicted on charges stemming from their arrest on JULY 5th for allegedly shooting fireworks at an off-duty CLEVELAND police officer at WHISKEY ISLAND MARINA.
NBC affiliate WKYC-TV and the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER report that FRENCH was indicted by a grand jury on 13 counts, including "inducing panic, attempted felonious assault, assault, vandalism, criminal damaging, resisting arrest and illegal fireworks." TOOMEY faces similar charges.
According to Officer STEVEN KINAS' account, FRENCH and TOOMEY appeared to be "highly intoxicated" and, when the officer confronted them over shooting fireworks off a boat, allegedly shot fireworks at him. He said he put out the fuse, then got into a shoving match with FRENCH and TOOMEY, after which FRENCH allegedly pushed the officer and said he didn't believe that he was an officer, at which point he was arrested, and, after briefly getting free and onto his boat, was taken into custody by additional police officers.
FRENCH, on his show after the arrest, called the allegations "absolutely absurd, ridiculous and not based in fact whatsoever" and said that he would talk more about the incident when he could.
