Famed Atlanta Radio And TV Personality Ron Sailor Sr. Dead At 61

RON SAILOR SR. was a pastor and an EMMY AWARD winning journalist/commentator. Multiple reports say he died of a heart attack SUNDAY. SAILOR was 61.
He spent decades in front of the camera and behind the pulpit in GEORGIA, but he also had success in radio. In 1971, SAILOR worked for CBS RADIO WAOK/ATLANTA. He returned to the station more than 40 years later when WAOK flipped to News Talk in 2002.
At the 2012 WAOK Truthy Awards SAILOR recognized some radio pioneers who helped shape him professionally.
“I stand on the shoulders of a lot of people like BEN HALEY, GENE MICHAELS, ZILLA MAYS, even JIVEMASTER, EZMOND PATTERSON, HARRISON SMITH, and BROTHER BOB MCKEE who were gracious enough to pass the torch on to me when I was 18 years old,” SAILOR said.
SAILOR is survived by his wife, the REV. DR. MARION SAILOR, and their four sons and two daughters.
