WXPN Launches Its ‘885 Greatest Songs Of The New Millennium’ Soon

UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA Triple A WXPN/PHILADELPHIA will launch its annual “885 Greatest Songs” countdown special broadcast on MONDAY, OCTOBER 14th at 6a., which will run through FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18th. This year’s theme is the “885 Greatest Songs of the New Millennium,” and all the songs were submitted by WXPN listeners.

“With our annual 885 countdown, we are essentially letting our listeners produce our programming for five days,” said AGM/Programming BRUCE WARREN. “After we announced this year’s theme in JULY, they started sending us their top-10 songs of the new millennium, which is how we build each year’s countdown. It’s a huge undertaking, and results in one of the most unexpected and entertaining radio broadcasts produced by XPN.”

A total of 8,100 songs were submitted by 1,948 voters between the dates of JULY 26th and SEPTEMBER 16th.   A selection of top 10 picks by WXPN on-air hosts, staff and others is posted at xpn.org/music-artist/885-countdown.
