CURRENT.ORG reports that the long-in-the-works news alliance between UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS noncommercial KWMU (ST. LOUIS PUBLIC RADIO)/ST. LOUIS and online nonprofit news site the ST. LOUIS BEACON is finally moving forward after a year of negotiations (NET NEWS 10/8/12). The report says that the parties have negotiated a merger agreement that will be considered by the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI Board of Regents at its NOVEMBER meeting.
The arrangement would merge the station's newsroom with the BEACON's, and would employ 60 staffers with no layoffs. The parties would include the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI's school of journalism in the operation as well.
