Condolences to the family and friends of CBS RADIO/TAMPA's JOSE FERNANDEZ II. FERNANDEZ, a promotion team member for the CBS RADIO/TAMPA cluster and a board-op at Top 40/Rhythmic WLLD (WiLD 94.1), was killed in a car accident FRIDAY night (10/18).
WLLD PD ORLANDO told ALL ACCESS, "He was a jovial, kindhearted guy, who was one of those rare breads, in this business, who has time for every listener question and getting the job done. Most use board op positions as a caveat to getting ON-AIR work, but JOSE was elated that he was the front line support, for our broadcasts, and relished shows that he meticulously ran the board. That commitment and genuine value is SO hard to find. He’d been with us, in those various capacities for the past three years, joining as a board op for our now defunct PLAY 98-7, and quickly felt that he could do more."
ORLANDO added, "FRIDAY night, at approximately 10, JOSE dropped his girlfriend off at work and heading a few miles away, to board op my club appearance, and never showed. To say it wasn’t like him to miss work, is an understatement, so we all got worried. The details are still coming in, but on the 10 minute trip, a car accident took his life."
A celebration of JOSE FERNANDEZ II's life is planned for SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27th at BRANDY'S in ST. PETERSBURG at 1p.
