SALEM RADIO NETWORK VP/News and Talk Programming TOM TRADUP checks in with ALL ACCESS to note a radio connection with MARCIA WALLACE, the comic actress who passed away this weekend at 70.
WALLACE, best known as Carol the receptionist on "THE BOB NEWHART SHOW" and the voice of BART SIMPSON's teacher Mrs. Krabappel on "THE SIMPSONS," hosted talk shows as a fill-in for MIKE MURPHY at KCMO-A/KANSAS CITY in 1981 while in town for summer stock theater, hired by then-PD TRADUP after she told him how she loved talk radio. "MARSHA was a talk radio natural... and her liberal views (especially as an early and ardent proponent of handgun control) lit up the phones like a CHRISTMAS tree at our studios in KANSAS CITY." WALLACE later filled in at KABC-A/LOS ANGELES and other stations.
TRADUP says, "Whenever I would see MARCIA on TV in later years or hear voicing the Mrs. Krabappel character on THE SIMPSONS, I'd joke with friends: 'There's the monster I helped to create!'"
