The CHICAGO BEARS are interested in launching a channel via CBS RADIO News WBBM-A-WCFS/CHICAGO's FM HD3 channel, reports the CHICAGO TRIBUNE's ED SHERMAN.
Under the team's deal with WBBM, the BEARS retain the right to launch an all-BEARS channel on HD RADIO similar to deals CBS has with the DALLAS COWBOYS, PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, and PITTSBURGH PENGUINS. BEARS President TED PHILLIPS told SHERMAN, "How cool is that? I can't say we will do it next year, but the brainstorming will begin next year. In my mind, we're probably looking at 2015.... The HD penetration still is not that high. It's very labor intensive. We have to make sure it is worth it."
The CHICAGO WHITE SOX' deal with WBBM's sister Sports WSCR-A (670 THE SCORE) give the SOX the right to their own channel on the HD3 channel of Classic Hits WJMK (104.3 K-HITS).
