In the first head-to-head matchup between PANDORA and iTUNES RADIO, PANDORA came out on top -- but was down 2 million active listeners. PANDORA posted listenership of 1.47 billion hours in OCTOBER, up 18% over OCTOBER 2012 figures.
TRITON DIGITAL SEPTEMBER metrics released YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 11/4) have PANDORA at #1.
PANDORA MEDIA CFO MICHAEL HERRING discussed the figures at an investor conference MONDAY, reported NPR, saying PANDORA "had 1.49 billion hours in MARCH, the last month before it imposed a 40-hour-per-month cap on free listening on mobile devices. It lifted the cap on SEPT. 1st, two weeks before APPLE INC. launched iTUNES RADIO."
HERRING noted PANDORA's active listeners fell to 70.9 million from 72.7 million in SEPTEMBER.
So far, APPLE CEO TIM COOK says that 20 million people have used iTUNES RADIO to listen to more than a billion songs.
