CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOR-A/NEW YORK morning host JOHN GAMBLING has announced that he is retiring after 35 years on NEW YORK radio, mostly at WOR. GAMBLING told listeners on MONDAY's show that his last show for the station will be on DECEMBER 20th.
GAMBLING joined WOR in 1978, the latest in the legacy of JOHN GAMBLINGS on the station (including his father JOHN A., with whom he co-hosted "RAMBLING WITH GAMBLING" mornings in 1985-90), He has also worked off the air at WROR/BOSTON, WAXY/MIAMI, and WHPN and WHVW/HYDE PARK, NY and hosted at crosstown WABC-A/NEW YORK.
In a press release issued after the announcement, GAMBLING said, "I have done and accomplished so much my radio career has given me the privilege to entertain and inform millions of New Yorkers. Each day, to watch the greatest city on earth from behind the microphone has been a thrill and I've been blessed with an audience that has been loyal and engaging. To say it has been exciting doesn¹t come close to the joy I have had."
Pres./Market Manager JOE PUGLIESE added, "JOHN GAMBLING is a NEW YORK CITY radio icon and we are grateful for his time and commitment to WOR and our loyal listeners over the years. His presence in morning radio will be missed throughout the industry, especially by the New Yorkers he informed and entertained for years."
