CBS RADIO News-Talk WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS morning news anchor STEVE MURPHY was beaten and robbed while he was on his daily run through SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS to work early THURSDAY morning, the station's sister station WCCO-TV reports.
MURPHY, who runs the mile from his home to a bus stop at 2:30a every morning, said that an "older model, white SUV (was) traveling very slowly near me, and I felt suspicious, so I changed my route," but that men got out of the car, threw him down, and choked him while they grabbed his wallet and left him there.
MURPHY got to the bus and was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for cuts and bruises; he has identified one of three men arrested for a similar crime in ANOKA COUNTY on the same day as his likely attacker, and that suspect was also likely caught on video using his credit card to pay for gas.
