SYRACUSE CHIEFS minor league baseball is returning to broadcast radio after a year online, with the team signing a deal with CUMULUS Sports WSKO-A (THE SCORE 1260)/SYRACUSE for this season, according to the SYRACUSE POST-STANDARD. WSKO was the team's flagship in 2011-2012; the team, which had been buying time from the radio station to air the games, went to the online-only model for financial reasons in 2013 rather than pay $25,000 for the air time.
New CHIEFS GM JASON SMOROL who recently joined the INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE club from the AUBURN DOUBLEDAYS, told the POST-STANDARD, "Why would you just want to be on the Internet? The fans wanted us to be on the radio. The radio wanted us to be on the radio. I don't think it's that hard. Everyone wanted us to be on the radio. We're on the radio..... Finances are always a consideration. But there's other sides to finances. You get what you pay for sometimes. You have to spend money to make money sometimes. We're confident that this is the right decision. We are on a completely different model. It's not going to cost us $25,000 to be on the radio. ''
As previously reported at ALL ACCESS (NET NEWS 11/7), JASON BENETTI and KEVIN BROWN will return to call the CHIEFS games; they will also appear in additional hosting roles for the station.
