Employees at SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY noncommercial News-Talk KPBS-F and PBS affiliate KPBS-TV/SAN DIEGO have voted to recognize SAG-AFTRA as their representatives. The move was opposed by the stations' management (NET NEWS 10/21); 55 employees are covered by the agreement.
KPBS EVENING EDITION local host PEGGY PICO said, “KPBS provides a unique and valuable service to the SAN DIEGO community. We look forward to a role in decision-making and to starting our negotiations."
A joint statement from union Pres. KEN HOWARD, EVP GABRIELLE CARTERIS, Secretary-Treasurer AMY AQUINO, and National VP/Broadcasters CATHERINE BROWN to KPBS staff said, "We will be standing with you to ensure that your quest for a real voice at work, guaranteed by a binding union contract, is heard and respected."
The union was elected to represent staff at SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RADIO noncommercial News-Talk KPCC/PASADENA-LOS ANGELES in JANUARY.
