The long-standing towers of ENTERCOM Talk KMBZ-A and Business KUDL-A (KMBZ BUSINESS CHANNEL)/KANSAS CITY briefly became a local issue in WESTWOOD, KS, reports the PRAIRIE VILLAGE POST, which says that some local residents objected to the renewal of the tower site's special use permit unless the chain link fence and barbed wire around the property were removed. But in the end, the planning commission subcommittee reviewing the permit decided to recommend renewal of the permit after all.
The fence may date back as long as 60-70 years, and the towers and transmitter building date back to 1933; the towers have fallen twice, in 1938 and in 1941, and a teen trespasser fell from one of the towers and died in 1997.
