Are parody bits about a losing football team actionable on a legal level? The WASHINGTON POST reports that the WASHINGTON REDSKINS sent a spokesman to complain to CBS RADIO Sports WJFK (106.7 THE FAN)/WASHINGTON about midday co-host DANNY ROUHIER and producer AJAY ATAYEE's fake REDSKINS play-by-play segments mocking the team, FEDEX FIELD, and owner DAN SNYDER's litigiousness.
The POST reports that spokesman TONY WYLLIE complained to WJFK REDSKINS beat reporter GRANT PAULSEL last week, then visited WJFK PD CHRIS KINARD to discuss the parodies, and WYLLIE told the POST after the meeting that "all we did is ask questions about what they were doing. Once they said it was all in jest, we were fine with it.... I have a sense of humor, like everyone else. It’s a joke, and I take it as a joke. Once they said it was all a joke, that’s all there was to it.” WJFK said that it will continue with the parody segments.
SNYDER sued the WASHINGTON CITY PAPER in 2011 over an unflattering profile but later dropped the suit.
