SALEM Talk KNUS-A/DENVER held a remote FRIDAY to support a local baker who has been ordered by a judge to serve a same-sex couple with a wedding cake, which he had refused to bake based on his religion.
The station did a live remote from MASTERPIECE CAKE SHOP FRIDAY morning 5-8a (MT) during PETER BOYLES' show, with another scheduled for STEVE KELLEY's 1-4p show, and a queue of KNUS listeners showed up to buy baked goods in support of baker JACK PHILLIPS, who was ordered last FRIDAY (12/6) by Administrative Law Judge ROBERT N. SPENCER to bake and sell wedding cakes to same-sex couples or face fines. PHILLIPS has thus far refused to comply, saying that the order violates his religious beliefs. Regional VP/GM BRIAN TAYLOR said that at its peak, the line included nearly 100 listeners and stretched out the door.
