APPLE is poised to make the promotion and marketing of iTUNES RADIO as one of, if not its highest priority in 2014. AD AGE reports that APPLE Software head EDDY CUE made iTUNES RADIO its top priority during a pre-holiday staff meeting -- and not app ads.
One company insider noted, “The message that came across was basically if you’re not working on iTUNES RADIO, you’re irrelevant."
The push is aimed at poaching ad sales from PANDORA, which hired hundreds of new local sales reps in 2013, and SPOTIFY, which introduced its ad-supported mobile radio service last week. At the same time, APPLE plans on building a real-time bidding exchange to automate selling in-app ads. Not yet known is whether the new APPLE exchange will be limited to mobile, because real-time iAds could be sold across devices -- including APPLE TV.
