The UK's RADIO ADVERTISING CLEARANCE CENTRE has relented and will now allow a prostate cancer PSA created by comic actor and radio personalities RICKY GERVAIS and STEPHEN MERCHANT to air before 9p.
The humorous spot, in which GERVAIS, the creator/star of "THE OFFICE" and "EXTRAS," performs a prostate exam on a nervous patient, was initially banned from airing outside the overnight hours, and the RACC ordered a squish sound effect removed. GERVAIS called the original decision "pathetic" but welcomed the RACC's reconsideration, saying "it's encouraging to know that within boundaries and with the listeners' best interests at heart, a body as powerful as this is still flexible and able to listen to public demand."
The sound effect has been removed from the ad, which is part of the PROSTATE CANCER CHARITY's "Real Men Know All About It" education campaign.
