OFCOM Grants 18 New Low Power FM Licenses

UK radio regulator OFCOM has granted another 18 new low-power "community radio" licenses. The new stations will serve LEEDS, OLDHAM, TAMESIDE, STOCKPORT, SALFORD, northeast BIRMINGHAM, northwest BIRMINGHAM (WINSON GREEN), north central BIRMINGHAM (ASTON), east BIRMINGHAM (SMALL HEATH), WEST BROMWICH, STOURBRIDGE, WOLVERHAMPTON, LISBURN, NEWRY, DOWNPATRICK, BANBRIDGE, and two in BELFAST. Two more WEST YORKSHIRE applications are being considered, pending determination of useable frequencies.
The regulator also has opened for applications a new analog FM license for SOUTHEND-ON-SEA, with applications for the 12 year license due by 3p JANUARY 12.
