World Cafe Live And WXPN To Celebrate 10th Anniversary

Happy 10th!

This OCTOBER, WORLD CAFE LIVE, a PHILADELPHIA landmark that created an innovative, new model for the way people experience live music will celebrate its milestone 10th anniversary.  The venue is a first-of-its-kind, private-public collaboration between REAL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, founded by PHILADELPHIA entrepreneur HAL REAL, and UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA Triple A WXPN.

“The idea behind WORLD CAFE LIVE seemed simple at the time: to create a cool clubhouse where music lovers of all ages could enjoy a first-rate live concert and a great meal under one roof,” says REAL, who teamed up with WXPN to develop new offices and studios for the station under the same roof as the WORLD CAFE LIVE venues.  “The collaboration with WXPN stemmed from a shared commitment to offering diverse music and providing listeners with an all-access experience, one that truly brought the radio station’s airwaves to life.”

To celebrate this major anniversary, WORLD CAFE LIVE and WXPN will jointly host special events in beginning with WORLD CAFE LIVE’s 10th Anniversary Show, featuring VALERIE JUNE and SEAN HAYES on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1st.

On THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2nd, WXPN will present a special concert for its major campaign supporters.  On SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5th at 8:30a., WXPN will present its inaugural XPN 5K RUN FOR MUSICIANS ON CALL.  An afternoon of live music showcases for campaign donors follows.

“Together with WORLD CAFE LIVE, we’ve created the model for both the 21st century community radio station and music venue – a place that truly connects artists with audiences,” said WXPN GM ROGER LAMAY.  “This partnership, along with our important donor support, has allowed WXPN the space and ability to offer weekly onsite Free at Noon live concerts and broadcasts, and to organize and host annual, national events such as NONCOMM and KINDIECOMM that bolster our leadership position in our industry.”
