EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION (EMF) Contemporary Christian K-LOVE/AIR1 Network has purchased WRCM/CHARLOTTE and WMHK/COLUMBIA from COLUMBIA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (CIU).
"CIU will be in a stronger position to focus on its core purpose of educating students from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ.” CIU Pres. DR. BILL JONES said. “Meanwhile, the radio stations will become part of an expanded outreach in the CAROLINAS with an owner who can continue their growth in the rapidly changing broadcast environment."
"K-LOVE has partnered with and been supportive of WMHK, WRCM, and WRZM for years and has seen their impact in the communities they serve," EMF Pres./CEO MIKE NOVAK said. "We look forward to working hard to continue the tradition, while bringing what we have to offer to listeners throughout the Carolinas."
The CIU Board of Directors decided to sell the station some time ago, and took the steps to find available suitors. It has been reported that EMF initially declined the offer to purchase, but later accepted when it became obvious that CIU definitely intended to sell to someone, which permitted the Contemporary Christian format to remain on both stations.
Ironically, WMHK/COLUMBIA was the 2014 CMB Medium Market Station Of The Year, and WRCM/CHARLOTTE has been an award nominee and finalist in recent years. ALL ACCESS extends thoughts and prayers to all the staff & families at both stations that are affected by the current layoffs, and best wishes for a safe & easy landing zone.
