CBS Chicago - which includes local television, radio and digital media platforms – announced plans for its third annual DAY OF GIVING, which will take place on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25th. For 13 hours that day, CBS LOCAL MEDIA will dedicate a significant portion of its programming to a live telethon/radiothon, in support of the AMERICAN RED CROSS OF CHICAGOs efforts to raise money and awareness for victims of home fires.
CBS CHICAGO CARES; RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF effort will begin at 6a (CT) and continue until 7p (CT) on the same day that CHICAGO will light its official CHRISTMAS tree. During the 13-hour benefit, volunteers from the RED CROSS and CBS employees will accept donations from a phone bank set up inside the CBS 2 BROADCAST CENTER lobby (22 West Washington), at the corner of WASHINGTON and DEARBORN STREETS.
Listeners and viewers may also visit www.cbschicago.com/redcross to contribute online, text 90999 REDCROSS to donate $10 prior to NOVEMBER 25th, and on NOVEMBER 25th donations can be made by calling the CBS CHICAGO CARES; RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF toll-free number at (855) 350-2900.
Broadcasting live from the site will be 104.3 K-HITS from 5-9a (CT) and B-96 from 2-7p (CT). WBBM NEWSRADIO, US99.5, 670 THE SCORE and WXRT will also support the fundraising effort throughout the day.
In addition to the fund-raising effort, CBS CHICAGO and the RED CROSS have arranged to distribute free smoke alarms. At 11a (CT), CBS broadcasters will join RED CROSS executives at the ENGINE COMPANY 16 (CFD FIREHOUSE) at 39th & WABASH, to distribute smoke alarms to area residents.
The AMERICAN RED CROSS recently launched a national fire preparedness initiative with the goal of reducing deaths and injuries from fires by 25% over the next five years.
