Condolences to veteran CHICAGO radio personality EDDIE VOLKMAN on the passing of his father, longtime CHICAGO television meteorologist HARRY VOLKMAN, who died THURSDAY in DES PLAINES, IL at 89, according to ROBERTFEDER.COM.
The elder VOLKMAN began his career in 1950 at KOTV (TV)/TULSA, moving to WKY-TV and KWTV/OKLAHOMA CITY before arriving in CHICAGO at NBC O&O WMAQ-TV in 1959. He worked at TRIBUNE independent WGN-TV in 1967-70, returned to WMAQ-TV through 1974, and went back to WGN through 1978. He worked at CBS O&O WBBM-TV in 1978-96 and at FOX O&O WFLD-TV in 1996 through his 2004 retirement. He is credited with being the first TV weatherman to issue a live tornado alert at WKY-TV in 1952.
