WURV (103.7 Play)/Richmond Is (Not) Our First Christmas Station

Earlier TODAY (10/7), ALL ACCESS reported that SUMMITMEDIA Hot AC WURV (103.7 PLAY)/RICHMOND had begun playing CHRISTMAS music at 6a as "103.7 PLAY - YOUR STATION FOR INAPPROPRIATELY EARLY CHRISTMAS MUSIC."  The station denied this was a prank or stunt, and said it was committed to holiday music through the holidays. 

Later today, 103.7 PLAY PD MELISSA CHASE checked in with ALL ACCESS for an update, "To say the city of RICHMOND has gone insane over this is an understatement.  Every news and media outlet covered the "switch" but failed to see that a station called "PLAY" was just "PLAYING" with them.  

Imaging sweepers had jokes like "ONLY 79 MORE DAYS 'TIL CHRISTMAS - TIME TO START THE HOLIDAY MUSIC!' and 'THE STATION FORCING CHRISTMAS MUSIC DOWN YOUR THROAT BEFORE YOU EVEN CARVED A PUMPKIN.' We put happy - and furious listeners on air and convinced them we just wanted to start the CHRISTMAS spirit a little early this year. And they weren't the only ones freaking out, news sources all across the U.S. picked up the story, crediting us as the first and most insane radio station to play CHRISTMAS music in the country.

We revealed the truth tonight on air, and online.  We  thought it would be something playful and fun to make fun of the "CHRISTMAS CREEP," especially since so many radio stations feed into it. And only 12 hours later I am officially sick of CHRISTMAS music!"
