The NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL (NSAI) presented its annual SONGWRITER ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS last NIGHT (10/11) at the MUSIC CITY CENTER in NASHVILLE. The association's professional songwriter members voted for Song Of The Year, Songwriter Of The Year, Songwriter/Artist Of The Year, and "The Songs I Wish I'd Written."
Song Of The Year honors went to "Girl Crush," penned by HILLARY LINDSEY, LORI MCKENNA, and LIZ ROSE as recorded by LITTLE BIG TOWN. The writers were on-hand to accept the award and perform the song. Songwriter Of The Year was awarded to RODNEY CLAWSON, co-writer of hits that include "AMERICAN Kids" (KENNY CHESNEY), "Bartender" (LADY ANTEBELLUM), "Burnin' It Down" (JASON ALDEAN), "Dirt" and "Sippin' On Fire" (FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE), and "Lettin' The Night Roll" (JUSTIN MOORE). TAYLOR SWIFT was honored as Songwriter/Artist Of The Year for a record-breaking seventh time in nine years, thanks in part to her self-penned collection of hits from her "1989" album, including "Bad Blood," "Blank Space," "Shake It Off," and "Style."
NSAI's Professional Songwriters Division also singled out their annual list of "The Songs I Wish I'd Written," which included eleven songs this year, due to a tie in voting.
