CBS RADIO Sports WFAN-A-F/NEW YORK afternoon host MIKE FRANCESA revealed to guest BILL SIMMONS on TODAY's show (10/14) that an ESPN "30 FOR 30" documentary about FRANCESA and CHRIS "MAD DOG" RUSSO is in the works.
FRANCESA said that he and RUSSO (now at SIRIUSXM's MAD DOG RADIO) have agreed to participate in the documentary about the days when "MIKE AND THE MAD DOG" ruled sports radio in NEW YORK. The "30 FOR 30" series was launched by SIMMONS, who left ESPN amidst some acrimony earlier this year and is now at HBO.
FRANCESA said that despite the cooperation and other recent reunions with RUSSO, the "economics" are against a return of "MIKE AND THE MAD DOG." "I would never be against a reunion sometime," FRANCESA said, but said that radio doesn't offer the money necessary to make that happen. And FRANCESA confirmed SIMMONS' story that after RUSSO left WFAN, he approached SIMMONS about taking over as co-host.
