As expected, JASON WHITLOCK has returned to FOX SPORTS to launch a blog, podcast, and television show for FOX SPORTS 1.
WHITLOCK, who was at FOX SPORTS in 2007-13 and recently left his second stint at ESPN under controversy surrounding his demotion from heading his own website THEUNDEFEATED.COM (chronicled in detail at DEADSPIN), has launched J.SCHOOL, a new site that debuted last night with a post addressing his exit from ESPN and return to FOX SPORTS as well as a response to the DEADSPIN coverage; he subsequently appeared on today's "THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD" to talk about his move. The podcast will launch "soon," according to FOX SPORTS' press release; the TV show is expected to launch in 2016.
“JASON WHITLOCK has been a prominent voice covering all areas of our culture with thought-provoking commentary for 25 years,” said FOX SPORTS Pres./National Networks JAMIE HOROWITZ, who worked with WHITLOCK at ESPN. "At FS1, we are consistently looking for people with perspectives who are independent, original and fearless. JASON's columns, podcasts and work on PTI have offered fans new ways to look at the sports world. We are eager to add his voice to FS1.”
WHITLOCK, a former columnist for the KANSAS CITY STAR and talk host at UNION Sports WHB-A/KANSAS CITY and ENTERCOM Sports KCSP/KANSAS CITY, told COWHERD, “I feel free today. I feel like JASON WHITLOCK today. I feel like the journalist I’ve always been, the opinion-maker I’ve always been. I feel free to be me and not persecuted for being me. It’s an overwhelming sense of relief and joy. I’m back to being a person I’ve always been, a person that sometimes is critical of the media, sometimes is critical of himself, sometimes is critical of athletes, but mostly, (I’m a guy) just having fun, who loves the sports world and thinks it’s a great place to analyze the rest of society.”
