YOUTUBE has finally launched YOUTUBE MUSIC, entering the increasingly crowded field of music streaming and taking on the likes of PANDORA, SPOTIFY, APPLE MUSIC, and more.
YOUTUBE MUSIC notes its platform will offer songs both with and without video, and will allow users will to switch instantly to an audio-only mode. The service will also create non-stop stations tailored to users, who can fine-tune how much variety they want.
Dir./Product Development T JAY FOWLER said he hoped to draw more people to streaming instead of simply competing with other companies. "I'm excited about being an additive to the market, rather than just moving users through an ecosystem of apps."
At the end of last month (NET NEWS 10/28), YOUTUBE RED launched in the U.S., offering a new membership that allows you to enjoy videos across the app without ads, while also letting you save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet and play videos in the background, all for $9.99 a month. YOUTUBE MUSIC was quietly included in that offering, but is officially being rolled out as a standalone now.
