GREATER MEDIA Classic Rock WMGK (102.9 MGK)/PHILADELPHIA morning host JOHN DeBELLA raised a total of 9.408 turkeys in his annual TURKEY DROP provided to less fortunate families and individuals in need of a holiday meal.
The JOHN DeBELLA TURKEY DROP is the largest, one-day food-gathering event in PHILADELPHIA. Last TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24th, DeBELLA broadcast live from LOVE PARK (across from CITY HALL, site of the famous LOVE STATUE) and the rest of the MGK airstaff spread out across the area at eight other collection locations. The TURKEY DROP benefits CITYTEAM PHILADELPHIA, an organization that provides holiday meals as well as other services to less-fortunate individuals and families in the tri-state area, and this year saw a record number of sign-ups for holiday meal assistance. A large percentage of those families are seeking CITYTEAM’s assistance for the first time.
PHILADELPHIA Mayor MICHAEL NUTTER was among the many guests who made an appearance at DeBELLA’s LOVE PARK broadcast. He urged listeners to make an on-site or online donation to the TURKEY DROP, highlighting the fact that it is about caring and demonstrating the true meaning of being the "City of Brotherly Love," showing those in need that others are looking out for them.
This year's efforts were assisted by a huge donation from PARX CASINO, who surprised everyone by having a truck with over $10,000 worth of turkeys pull up to the LOVE PARK live broadcast site.
