Judge Denies Sumner Redstone's Ex's Request For Expedited Mental Competency Exam

A LOS ANGELES COUNTY Superior Court judge has denied a former girlfriend's request that VIACOM Chairman SUMNER REDSTONE undergo a mental competency examination. Judge CLIFFORD KLEIN denied the request by MANUELA HERZER, who sued last week after being removed as REDSTONE's legal agent in favor of VIACOM CEO PHILIPPE DAUMAN.

REDSTONE, 92, broke up with HERZER and his other girlfriend SYDNEY HOLLAND earlier this year.

The judge said that there appears to be no "urgency" and because REDSTONE is not suffering from critical health issues. The decision means that the case will proceed on a less urgent schedule. He also put the brakes on discovery until a separate hearing occurs on REDSTONE's motion to dismiss the case.
