GREATER MEDIA Rock WMMR (93.3)/PHILADELPHIA PRESTON & STEVE listeners have donated over 1.1 million pounds of non-perishable food items to feed the area’s hungry. That represents more than 581 tons, filling 40 tractor trailers, collected over a five-day live broadcast.
This represents the largest amount collected in the event's history, dating back to 1998. Though PRESTON & STEVE encourage food donations from individuals and local businesses, listeners also contributed over $159,000 in monetary donations. The combination results in over 1.4 million meals that PHILABUNDANCE is able to provide for those in need in the DELAWARE VALLEY.
For an entire week, WMMR’s PRESTON & STEVE lived in the parking lot of XFINITY LIVE PHILADELPHIA, broadcasting live each morning and encouraging listeners to donate food to PHILABUNDANCE. Over 30 celebrities/performers lent their support in person and by calling in to encourage fans to donate, including EAGLES players ZACH ERTZ, DEMECO RYANS and AONNOR BARWIN; KELLY RIPA; each of the CITY 6 college basketball coaches; former PHILADELPHIA FLYERS stars REGGIE LEACH and DANNY BRIERE; MIKE PORTNOY; JUDD APATOW; ROBERT IRVINE, and the PHILLIE PHANATIC.
Listeners enjoyed two free nighttime events – a comedy show on MONDAY featuring DAVE ATTELL, GREG WARREN, JOE MATARESE, TOMMY POPE and host VINNIE BRAND D and a free rock show from multiple-GRAMMY nominated band HIGHLY SUSPECT on WEDNESDAY. Both events took place inside XFINITY LIVE for anyone that made a donation.
SUBARU OF AMERICA’s largest donation from a business, 347,217 pounds, earned first prize - a live PRESTON & STEVE broadcast from their business headquarters in CHERRY HILL, NJ.
