X AMBASSADORS have donated the proceeds of their APRIL concert at the MISSISSIPPI COAST COLISEUM CRAWFISH FESTIVAL in BILOXI, to the local LGBTQI charity, UNITY MISSISSIPPI. The announcement came after the state signed into law HB 1523 — the “Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act” — an “anti-LGBT bill” that would give legal cover to those who want to discriminate against people out of their religious belief.
X AMBASSADORS officially made that donation today amid news that a federal judge struck part of HB 1523, barring MISSISSIPPI from denying same-sex marriage licenses, meaning no circuit clerk or staff member clerk can deny a gay couple a marriage license even if HOUSE BILL 1523 is in effect.
“We stand with the LGBTQI community of MISSISSIPPI,” said X AMBASSADORS in a statement. “When we learned about HB 1523 getting passed back in APRIL, we were heartbroken and angry. With the enactment of this awful bill on the horizon, we refuse to give up hope. We, X AMBASSADORS, vow to continue our efforts alongside organizations like UNITY MISSISSIPPI in the fight for equality. We sincerely hope this donation helps empower the LGBTQI community in MISSISSIPPI and furthers the fight against injustice.”
Added UNITY MISSISSIPPI Chairman KNOL AUST: “We are overjoyed! Through UNITY MISSISSIPPI programs, services and community outreach, we connect hundreds of individuals and many organizations in MISSISSIPPI’s LGBTQI community. This gift will allow us to extend our outreach through expanded communication with and programs for the state’s LGBTQI community. This gift will be impactful well into the future and UNITY MISSISSIPPI is very fortunate X AMBASSADORS want to help elevate the state’s grassroots LGBTQI movement.”
