CBS RADIO Sports WIP/PHILADELPHIA and controversial afternoon host JOSH INNES have parted ways. The move was confirmed by anchor MARC FARZETTA and co-host HOLLIS THOMAS as the afternoon show began TODAY (8/24), with FARZETTA confirming unnamed reports (the CROSSING BROAD blog broke the news minutes after INNES was reportedly told he was done) saying that INNES was out but he had no other details.
INNES joined WIP in late 2013 from sister Sports KILT-A (SPORTS RADIO 610)/HOUSTON for evenings and moved to afternoons with TONY BRUNO in JANUARY 2015; BRUNO exited that JULY for his own podcast and INNES continued as the lead host in afternoons, first with PD SPIKE ESKIN and THOMAS, a former EAGLE, as co-hosts. ESKIN took himself off the air this JANUARY and FARZETTA moved to the afternoon sports anchor slot with INNES and THOMAS hosting. INNES was embroiled in controversies during his WIP tenure, including a suspension for using a racial epithet to refer to an EAGLES player and a confrontation with arch-rival GREATER MEDIA Sports WPEN (97.5 THE FANATIC) afternoon host MIKE MISSANELLI at EAGLES training camp last year. Most recently, his posting on social media of a picture of AL JOLSON in blackface as a response to the controversy over the fake-caller issue on MISSANELLI's show drew criticism.
