In other filings with the FCC, CAROL WHEELER is transferring KKID-A/SALEM, MO to her son STEVEN K. WHEELER and daughter-in-law JILL E. WHEELER for consideration of past payments to her and her late husband DAVID.
INTERMOUNTAIN PUBLIC RADIO, INC. has applied for an extension of its Silent STA for KWDS/KETTLEMAN CITY, CA, which it recently acquired.
KERMIT and DIANE WOMACK (KERM INC./DANVILLE FM INC.) have closed on the sale of News-Talk KARV-A/RUSSELLVILLE, AR; Country KARV-F/OLA, AR; and Country KYEL (THUNDER COUNTRY)/DANVILLE, AR to BOBBY CALDWELL's EAST ARKANSAS BROADCASTERS for $800,000.
And POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE RADIO, INC. has closed on the sale of W281AJ/RIPLEY, WV; W285DZ/JACKSON, OH; and W234CB/WISE, VA to WEST VIRGINIA RADIO CORPORATION for $210,000. The buyer plans to move the translators to rebroadcast Southern Gospel WJLS-A/BECKLEY, WV; News-Talk WAJR-A/MORGANTOWN, WV; and News-Talk WCHS-A/CHARLESTON, WV, respectively.
Also, IMMACULATE CONCEPTION APOSTOLIC SCHOOL's appeal of the cancellation of its license for KJPT/COLFAX, CA has been denied. The construction permit for the new noncommercial FM was cancelled and an application for a license to cover was denied in MARCH because the applicant had lost "local applicant" status by closing its local office and showed a THORNWOOD, NY address.
And as ALL ACCESS first reported TUESDAY (NET NEWS 8/30), CUMULUS has purchased K233CG/SANDIA-ALBUQUERQUE from MARTHA T. WHITMAN for $425,000, and the buyer wasted no time in launching a simulcast of News-Talk KKOB-A/ALBUQUERQUE on the translator. VP/Market Manager JEFF BERRY said, “We celebrate a remarkable milestone in the history of ALBUQUERQUE as we turn on the FM simulcast of NEW MEXICO’s oldest radio station, 770 KKOB-AM, the #1 talk station in ALBUQUERQUE for over 20 years and an ALBUQUERQUE treasure. The new FM simulcast allows us to serve our entire community with NEW MEXICO’s best talk radio programming from this iconic and beloved ALBUQUERQUE original. Our listeners and advertisers will get more of what they love with KKOB’s new FM broadcast, paired with the existing AM broadcast.” And OM/PD PAT FRISCH added, “This is an exciting time for all of us here at KKOB, and one that has been years in the making. We look forward to introducing our great talk radio programming to thousands of new listeners that live on the FM dial."
In CANADA, CANADIAN HELLENIC TORONTO RADIO INC. Greek/Multicultural CHTO-A/TORONTO has won CRTC approval for an additional AM transmitter in suburban MISSISSAUGA, ON. The new transmitter, covering the western part of the GTA -- MISSISSAUGA, BRAMPTON, and ETOBICOKE -- will use 23 watts daytime and 770 watts at night on 1490 AM. The primary signal airs on 1690 AM with 3 kw days and 1 kw nights, but the station complained that the expanded band signal, even after tripling its daytime power, cannot cover the western portion of the GTA.
