FCC Chairman KEVIN MARTIN told an audience at the inaugural HELMS FORUM in CHARLOTTE TUESDAY that "it's important for parents and families to have more tools to have more control over content" to deal with indecency.
MARTIN noted the increase in complaints from about a hundred five years ago to the present annual level of hundreds of thousands, chalking the increase up to broadcasters "pushing the envelope" (but not referring to the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL's influence in generating most of the increase in complaints); he urged that new technology, which has increased the amount of material available to families, be used to find "an easy way for consumers to be able to control content."
