Legendary Musician 'Buckwheat Zydeco Has Passed

STANLEY 'BUCKWHEAT' DURAL, JR., best known as BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO, died SATURDAY (9/24) in LAFAYETTE, LA. The 68-year-old reportedly had been suffering from lung cancer.
His music was a blend of Cajun, Creole and Blues. He played everything from accordion to a washboard. BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO became the first Zydeco artist to sign with a major label; ISLAND RECORDS.
During his career, the LOUISIANA native performed and recorded with ERIC CLAPTON, MAVIS STAPLES, KEITH RICHARDS, BOSTON POPS, ROBERT PLANT, U2, and many others. He won an EMMY for his music in PISTOL PETE ‘THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PETE MARAVICH.’
