The latest in the OPIE drama at SIRIUSXM involves another aquarium video from the host, this time saying that he received an offer from the satellite service that he rejected.
OPIE's contract recently expired, taking him off the air, and his subsequent comments and reaction from former co-host JIM NORTON and NORTON's new partner, producer SAM ROBERTS, has left the show in a state of flux all week (NET NEWS 9/28). NORTON and ROBERTS have been hosting the morning show and discussing OPIE's departure; OPIE's latest response was to post this video talking about rejecting another SIRIUSXM offer last night:
OPIE also responded to NORTON's comments on the air about the split as reported at ALL ACCESS in a series of tweets:
Things that aren't true. Never lobbied for afternoons w/ Tim Sabean. He suggested it at one point and I rejected it https://t.co/Kh5dxPhPMN
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016According to my agent Jimmy signed his contract weeks ago and not tuesday. It wasn't my choice to leave show I was pushed out. More to come
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016He started it by telling me over a yr ago he was leaving the show. This is well documented on radio/podcast shows he did and Esquire article https://t.co/GuR0SkxZPf
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016The thought was he wants to leave the show but it's still working so why not still do 2 days w/ him and give him 2/3 days to do his own show
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016Maybe if you say that enough it will come true! You can't make changes to a contract after its signed. MY AGENT SAID HE SIGNED WEEKS AGO. https://t.co/76UdtFqouo
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016Fair enough but the point is he signed a contract weeks ago. I was very surprised to hear this from my agent and not Jimmy. https://t.co/owWToEAQs3
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016A lot of bullshit is being slung around. I will have my complete side of this in time. Thanks for all the positive tweets.
— opie radio (@OpieRadio) September 29, 2016On THURSDAY's show, NORTON and ROBERTS talked about OPIE's tweetstorm, with NORTON "really irritated" that OPIE was responding to what people were telling him about NORTON's comments rather than the broadcast itself, taking issue with the idea that he had blamed OPIE for affecting his standup turnout (he said that the show's decline in quality, half of which was his responsibility, had reduced the audience size), and denying that the story about OPIE lobbying to move afternoons was a lie, with ROBERTS backing NORTON's recollection and adding that the confusion may have arisen from a later change of heart by OPIE about a time change, as related by their mutual agent BOB EATMAN. "Stop getting your f---ing news from Twitter," NORTON exclaimed. "Just listen to what I said."
