ENDA W. CALDWELL reporting:
The day 2 schedule of THE IMAGING DAYS 2016 conference took place today at DE LICHTFABRIEK in HAARLEM, HOLLAND with Event Organizer ANTHONY TIMMERS announcing exclusively to ALL ACCESS that next year #TID17 will debut The Global Imaging Awards from AMSTERDAM. "We'll be in the search of the best pieces of radio imaging on the planet.” TIMMERS said.
A jury (lead by one of the top Imaging Directors in the world) will make a pre-selection and the rest of the radio imaging may vote who has the best pieces. The special Award show will take place during THE IMAGING DAYS 2017 in the NETHERLANDS. JANUARY 2017 will be the month when entries and submissions for will start for this new awards show via theimagingdays.com.
Highlights from today’s schedule were a session on beat matching and music promo production hosted by NIELS DE KONING and JOOST VAN DEN BRINK from QMUSIC (NL and BE). Next up was a session on Imaging Production with JEAN PAUL VAN DRUTEN and ANTHONY TIMMERS of SPINE JINGLES. After Lunch at DE LICHTFABRIEK venue, the audience was treated to a master class in imaging and creative radio production with 89.0 RTL GERMANY’s CHRISTIAN TROITZSCH.
STAXX WILLIAMS of Z100 and WKTU/NEW YORK Imaging told the audience about what got him from a childhood interest in radio at ROANOKE, VA to the big gig at Z100, including some fun messages between he and the PD in the lead-up to him getting hired at Z100, then added, “Great to see how the European Producers make everything from scratch.”
Former Z100 Imaging Services Dir. DAVE FOXX, who hosted the final and main session for Day 2, told ALL ACCESS: “For years I’ve been telling people that European radio has become so very dynamic, stretching far beyond the American paradigm. The IMAGING DAYS 2016 bears that out with terrific show and tell sessions from CHRISTIAN TROITZSCH from 98.0 RTL in GERMANY, DENZIL LACEY from RTÉ 2FM in IRELAND and CHRIS WARD from BAUER CITY NETWORKS ... each giving a really creative tour de force. Just being asked to present here in HAARLEM was really exciting for me, not because I felt like I had so much to offer, but because I knew I would learn a lot from some of the sharpest minds in imaging from across EUROPE.
"I’ve also been able to catch up with people I’ve known for years, mostly through social media, shake hands and finally meet face-to-face," he continued. "The best part though is hanging out with people who feel the way I do about imaging for two long days, sharing tips and tricks without feeling like we’re being traitorous to our individual stations/companies. Lest any managers reading this are reacting badly to that, know that almost without fail, everyone comes away with much more than they brought. It’s a rich playground of ideas that makes the average producer come away an outstanding producer.”
The Attendees' Reaction
LEE PRICE of ABSOLUTE RADIO UK told ALLACCESS: “No matter how many sessions over the two days at THE IMAGING DAYS, there is something you take as inspiration from every workshop or imaging master class."
“It’s a man’s world and I don’t know why," KATJA CERNELA from RADIO SLOVENIA said. "I am the only girl here and nobody knows the answer why? Perhaps guys are better listeners? But it’s all about sound and it doesn’t matter how we look just that the imaging sounds great!"
RADIO 538 HOLLAND Imaging Dir. CHRIS HARTGERS said, “It’s great to meet so close to home for me so many legends of imaging, new kids on the block and random radio people all in one place.”
BRYAN APPLE, formerly of SIRIUSXM, said “New friends, old friends, inspiration and sharing ideas.”
“It’s a great way of meeting everyone from The Imaging World,” TOM CROSS of IMAGING BLUEPRINT noted.
