How does a radio station that doesn't have the broadcast rights to the local team get to air the team's playoff games anyway? In the case of ESPN Sports WMVP (ESPN1000)/CHICAGO, the answer is in the network affiliation: Even though rival CBS RADIO Sports WSCR-A (670 THE SCORE) is the exclusive flagship of CHICAGO CUBS baseball, ESPN1000 plans to air the CUBS' postseason games using ESPN RADIO's national coverage with DAN SHULMAN and AARON BOONE. The station is adding local content from ESPN's CUBS beat reporter JESSE ROGERS as well.
“Being the home for MLB and CHICAGO playoff baseball is one of the best assets we offer local sports fans,” said GM JIM PASTOR. “Our CUBS broadcasts with DAN SHULMAN and AARON BOONE will be high energy, extremely passionate, with informed analysis and less clutter than any other baseball broadcast. In addition, ESPN1000 will provide complete pre- and post-game coverage with our CUBS insider JESSE ROGERS, plus an array of current and former CUBS chiming in with fans on the series. ESPN1000 prides itself on being able to superserve CHICAGO sports fans during this historic CUBS run.”
Fans looking for the CUBS' own broadcasts with PAT HUGHES and RON COOMER will get their local voices on 670 THE SCORE, which took over flagship duties this year after one year on sister News WBBM-A and decades before that on crosstown TRIBUNE News-Talk WGN-A.
