And The BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF AMERICAN UNIVERSITY have closed on the sale of W228AB/PARAMOUNT, MD and W228AM/FREDERICK, MD to MANNING BROADCASTING, INC. for $100,000. The translators, which formerly aired the BLUEGRASS COUNTRY format of WAMU-HD2/WASHINGTON, have switched primary stations to Classic Hits WWEG (106.9 THE EAGLE)/MYERSVILLE, MD under the new ownership. LARRY PATRICK and JASON JAMES of PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS served as brokers for AMERICAN UNIVERSITY in the transaction.
The Commission also denied WESTERN BROADCASTERS, INC.'s Petition for Reconsideration of the denial of its 2006 Request for Tolling in the matter of its construction permit for KUCU-A/FARMINGTON, NM, and has cancelled the permit as expired and deleted the permit and call letters from its database. WESTERN had requested tolling citing a change in Commission policies for notifying Tribal Nations of proposed tower construction, which it said delayed construction while having to go through a repeat of the same process with Tribal councils it had already done once, but the Commission said that the process of notification was voluntary and the second round was the result of defects in the original notifications. WESTERN also alleged that the Commission did not provide sufficient notice to applicants of changes in the process and that the notice that was published failed to include specific requirements like tower height notification, but the Commission disagreed that any lack of clarity was to blame for WESTERN being unable to meet its construction deadline.
