COLUMBIA/BLUE CHAIR artist KENNY CHESNEY was honored with BMI’s prestigious President's Award during last NIGHT’s (11/1) Country Awards, recognizing BMI’s roster of songwriters. CHESNEY joined an elite list of past President's Award honorees, such as P!NK, TAYLOR SWIFT, ADAM LEVINE, WILLIE NELSON, BROOKS & DUNN and GLORIA and EMILIO ESTEFAN. A musical tribute from KEITH URBAN, ERIC CHURCH, and DEAN DILLON provided extra shine to the presentation.
Other BMI Country Award winners last night included Songwriter of the Year accolades to ROSS COPPERMAN, whose credits this year include “Confession” for FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, “Don’t It” for BILLY CURRINGTON, “Drunk On Your Love” for BRETT ELDREDGE, “ and John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16” for KEITH URBAN, among others.
Song of the Year honors went to “Die A Happy Man,” penned by THOMAS RHETT (who also performed it), JOE LONDON, and SEAN DOUGLAS. SONY/ATV MUSIC NASHVILLE won Publisher of the Year, extending its streak of more than a decade taking home that prize. Of the 50 most played songs form this year, 22 were published by SONY/ATV MUSIC NASHVILLE. Full BMI award details here.
