VIACOM and CBS CORP. Vice Chair SHARI REDSTONE told the NEW YORK TIMES' DEALBOOK Conference THURSDAY (11/10) that she wasn't in favor of the 2006 split of the companies in the first place and thinks that reuniting them could give the combined company crucial scale in the industry, reports the WALL STREET JOURNAL.
REDSTONE told the conference that "I actually was never a great proponent of the split" her father SUMNER REDSTONE engineered a decade ago and said that "scale is going to matter. Scale matters because it is going to give us leverage." But she added that the companies could continue on their own if the boards decide not to re-combine, and she noted that she cannot be involved in the merger negotiations for legal reasons.
