EMMIS News-Talk WIBC/INDIANAPOLIS raised funds for the SEMPER FI FUND at its 2nd annual “Hometown Heroes” event in the lobby of EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS in INDIANAPOLIS last week. The dinner event was hosted by hosts TONY KATZ and JASON HAMMER with the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS' MATT OVERTON and the SEMPER FI FUND's JOSH BLEIL, a wounded Marine himself. Attendees included military members, police officers, first responders, and community leaders nominated by listeners, and the INDY HONOR FLIGHT team was at the event with veterans from WORLD WAR II and the KOREAN WAR.
After KATZ and OVERTON spoke, a check for over $6,800 was presented to the SEMPER FI FUND, and a donor matched that amount the next day to raise the total to $13,600. In addition, over $1,000 was raised for the INDIANAPOLIS METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPT. for body armor purchases, and one paramedic/EMT won a new $5,000 furnace and installation from a local heating and air company, bringing the total distributed to over $19,500 in cash and prizes. SINGER FINANCIAL GROUP sponsored the event.
