Despite a star-studded lineup, the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS garnered their lowest ratings ever for ABC, with a 2.4 in the key demo and total viewers totalling 8.16 million. The previous low was in 2012, when it scored a 3.4 rating with 9.5 million viewers.
That was off a whopping 31% from last year’s 3.5 demo rating and 11 million viewers, which itself was down from the previous year. Still, the telecast was a vast improvement on ABC’s usual SUNDAY night ratings, which had been hovering around a 0.8 demo rating in the last few weeks.
By comparison, '60 Minutes," which featured an interview with AMA performer BRUNO MARS, scored a 3.1 in the key demo on CBS, with 15.81 million viewers, while both the NFL SUNDAY NIGHT game on NBC and "Madame Secretary" on CBS both scored more viewers.
