MATRIX BROADCASTING Classic Rock WFXF (103.9 THE FOX)/CRYSTAL LAKE-CHICAGO has named CHICAGO radio veteran ED "EDDIE V" VOLKMAN to be its new morning show host, effective NOV. 28th, CHICAGOLAND RADIO & MEDIA reports. He succeeds BRIAN SHERMAN, who left to co-host mornings at WDRV (97.1 THE DRIVE)/CHICAGO.
While guest-appearing on PAT CAPONE's afternoon show, VOLKMAN said, "It's great to be here. I'm excited! I came out here and did a guest shot on your sister-station [WZSR (STAR 105.5)] a while back, and I told (morning show host JOE CICERO) this is so great. It's not the confines of corporate radio, and it's like family, and people seem to like each other, and you have cows out the window...!"
"I've also been teaching over at ILLINOIS MEDIA SCHOOL and we send a lot of interns this way," VOLKMAN said. "They come back talking about 'what a great atmosphere and it's so local and they tie into the community.' They say the fans love the station and you love them right back. I like it that way ... That's the way radio was originally meant to be and the way it still is here."
As for his morning show, VOLKMAN notes, "Well, I wake up in a good mood every morning and I hope it's contagious to other people. We'll try to have some fun, and respect the music because we know that's the force behind this station. We'll do some fun stuff in and around."
