The extension of online public file requirements by the FCC to broadcasters has led to one exception, as the Commission has granted COX RADIO INC.'s request for a partial waiver of the rules as they pertain to Urban AC WALR-F (KISS 104.1)/PALMETTO-ATLANTA, GA and Classic Rock WSRV (97.1 THE RIVER)/GAINESVILLE-ATLANTA, GA.
The waiver will allow the stations to avoid having to post their entire set of quarterly issues-programs lists and EEO reports online. Because COX is applying for a waiver of the broadcast-newspaper cross-ownership rules to allow it to continue to own the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, ABC affiliate WSB-TV, and several radio stations in the ATLANTA market, and the Commission has yet to grant the license renewals for WALR for 2011 and WSRV for 2003 and 2011, the stations are required to keep public files dating back to 1996 for WSRV and 2004 for WALR. The burden of uploading thousands of pages of lists to the station websites, the Commission agreed, would not provide any benefit to the public.
