EMMIS AUSTIN RADIO’s seven radio stations have supported the greater local community this holiday season, with each of the seven brands supporting various charities. VP/Market Manager SCOTT GILLMORE said, “Our radio stations and our people pride ourselves on serving the local community, here in AUSTIN where we all live and work.”
Among the charity efforts, News-Talk KLBJ-A-K259AJ's OPERATION THANK YOU donation drive on VETERANS DAY raised over $12,000 for the FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION at FORT HOOD, which provides no cost lodging services for military families during a loved one’s service-related hospital stay. The donations have gone to provide calling cards to soldiers stationed overseas during the holidays, to fund travel and hotel accommodations for families of NATIONAL GUARD members stationed at the TEXAS border and to give COMFORT CREW boxes to military children whose parents are injured/passed.
Triple A KGSR hosted its sold-out 26th ANNIVERSARY PARTY, benefitting the SIMS FOUNDATION, featuring BAND OF HORSES, KURT VILE and LUCY DACUS, at ACL LIVE at the MOODY THEATER on DECEMBER 14th. The station also continues to sell its "Broadcasts Vol. 24" CD, benefitting the SIMS FOUNDATION and the SETON FUND, raising over $2.5 million since its inception.
Classic Rock KLBJ-F rose over $7,500 to help less fortunate families in its seventh year of the "DUDLEY AND BOB WITH MATT SHOW"’s BREAKING AND ENTERING CHRISTMAS. Listeners submit friends and family members in need and the show surprises selected families to a home filled with presents, meals, and holiday decorations. The show has risen over $40,000 over the past seven holiday seasons.
Alternative KROX (101X) celebrated 11 years of partnering with AUSTIN's HABITAT FOR HUMANITY chapter with two sold-out EMO'S shows this week, featuring hit alternative acts PHANTOGRAM, BISHOP BRIGGS and LOCAL NATIVES plus local band CALLIOPE MUSICALS. INDIE XMAS has raised nearly $100,000 over the years to support AUSTIN HABITAT's efforts.
Adult Hits KBPA (103.5 BOB-FM) is a proud supporter of the CHUY'S CHILDREN GIVING TO CHILDREN PARADE, along with the rest of its six EMMIS AUSTIN RADIO sister stations. 20% of the toys needed this year for OPERATION BLUE SANTA were donated by over 80,000 people during the parade.
Regional Mexican KLZT (107.1 LA Z) and Spanish Hits KLZT-HD2-K274AX (LATINO 102.7) conducted their bi-annual CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK RADIOTHON on DECEMBER 9th and 10th, raising $165,679 to benefit DELL CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER. The stations will also conduct their annual POSADA NAVIDENA on DECEMBER 18th, distributing over 1,200 toys to families in need, as well as their SALA NAVIDENA on DECEMBER 19th, which will furnish the home of a family in need with the help of FURNITURE MARKET.
