ROONEY MOON BROADCASTING Rock KRMQ (BIG 101.5)/CLOVIS, NM on-air personality and station cowner STEVE ROONEY died on SUNDAY (DECEMBER 18th) after a car crash south of PORTALES, NM at the age of 45.
Police say their preliminary investigation show the vehicle "encountered ice on the roadway" and collided with a tree. ROONEY was pronounced dead at the scene.
ROONEY and his radio and business partner DUFFY MOON owned and operated four radio stations in CLOVIS and PORTALES under the ROONEY MOON BROADCASTING group. He was on the air at Hot AC KSMX (MIX 107.5)/CLOVIS, NM, for 13 years and more recently on Rock KRMQ (BIG 101.5).
MOON posted the news on FACEBOOK,"with an amazingly heavy heart and overwhelming sadness."
"We lost an amazing man, my best friend, and very long time radio partner," wrote MOON. "For those of you who knew STEVE personally, please say a prayer for his wife, JULIE, and his four children. They are an incredibly strong family, but will need your support in the coming months."
