ROCKET CITY BROADCASTING, HUNTSVILLE, AL will rebrand R&B oldies WLOR (1550-A/SUNNY 98.1) to Classic Hip-Hop '98.1 THE BEAT.'
The station plans to freshen up the Classic Hip-Hop and R&B playlist with artists such as; JAY-Z, MARY J. BLIGE, 2PAC, BEYONCE, DRAKE, RHIANNA, KANYE WEST, and others.
PD ED GAINES told ALL ACCESS, “We thought there was a void in the market for adults who grew up with Hip-Hop and R&B. They are out here buying and spending money and needed something that reflected their music needs. This rebrand really reflects the direction and the involvement that both RICK LEE and I have in the community."
Market Manager KEVIN DANIELS added, “ED and RICK LEE have worked very hard from conception to execution for the rebranding of SUNNY 98.1 to 98.1 THE BEAT. They have always been spirited about being SUNNY 98.1, but while working with them closely for months on this, there is a new sense of revitalization in the studio. HUNTSVILLE will see that new energy show through when they listen to 98.1 THE BEAT. Changing to 98.1 THE BEAT helps us identify with our core listeners, while attracting a much wider audience in the Greater HUNTSVILLE area.”
