Everyone at ALL ACCESS is very saddened to learn of the passing of one of the industry's legends, TOM NOONAN, following a battle with cancer. He was 78 and is survived by two daughters, KERRY and KRISTIE. Funeral arrangements are pending.
In 1949 NOONAN joined BILLBOARD and in 1954 created three Top 100 Charts for Sheet Music, Juke Boxes, Sales. He joined COLUMBIA RECORDS as Sr. VP/Promo in 1966 under GODDARD LIEBERSON and continued under CLIVE DAVIS, who gave him the startup funds to launch DATE RECORDS. He went on to join MOTOWN as VP/Marketing, came back to NEW YORK for COLUMBIA, and then segued to METROMEDIA RECORDS as Pres. NOONAN rejoined BILLBOARD in the mid-'70s as Head Of Sales, and in the early '80s once again became Head Of Charts until his exit in 1990. He later started NEW MARKETING with JOHNNY BARBIS and then formed CHART MAGAZINE with STEVE RESNIK.
ALL ACCESS President JOEL DENVER commented, "TOMMY was a classy man. Always had a smile and a good spin on things. That's how he was, and that's how he'll be remembered by so many he helped along the way."
